Masala Books - `As real as it gets`
March 08 - Welcome and thanks for visiting your one stop shop for thrilling and spicy novels! If you are looking for books that are full of virility, a witty undertone, grounded in reality and contain a plethora of kidney punching thrills and twists along the way, then my fair feathered friend you are in good company. Every novel in the Masala Books range is for the realist out there, no pompous language, no messing about with unrealistic situations and no arty farty characters - but the sort of snappy and gut wrenching encounters that every Asian will have faced or is currently facing in their lives at some point. Each book is like an Asian Guy Richie film or Goodness Gracious Me episode in paperback form. Come and enjoy the escapism as much as I have had composing these little babies...
April 08 - I appeared on the Nikki Bedi Show on the BBC Asian Network Radio Station and had my book - Masala Wedding independently reviewed with resounding success. I would like to thank everyone for their positive feedback thus far and hope to continue to entertain my readers with future novels.
July 08 - I was interviewed regarding my novels. Check out my interview at Asians in Media.
Sept 08 - I appeared on Asian FX Radio in an hour long interview where I talked about my ideas for future novels and new developments within the script writing industry. There are exciting projects on the horizon...
Oct 08 - I have finally got my `chittla` in gear and have started on my next novel, especially after seeing swinging effigies of me dangling from the lamposts in my local town centre from my recent inactivity from hardbitten and staunch fans out there, take it easy guys!! Okay enough bakwaas, my next novel promises to be a real corker and a ballsy, rollercoaster of a ride and I am looking forward to unleashing the next wave of sadistic and iniquitous characters, not to mention a thoroughly engaging storyline upon you. Keep updated and check out next months blog. In the meantime stay healthy and happy, all the best...
Nov 08 - Kidda, just a swift update on the Masala Books front. Although I have drafted the basic outline and general gist of my next novel, I am going to put off from writing until the new year as I have a few other irons burning in the fire at the moment. The kind of pressing engagements that have had me running around like a distressed `baandar` (monkey). But don't worry, I promise you that the next book will be just the edifying aphrodisiac you will need amidst this debilitating credit crunch that hangs over us like the Sword of Damocles. Check back for more updates later...
Jan 09 - If you get a moment then take a look at the You Tube trailers to each of my books. You will find them lurking with nefarious intent on the relevant book page on this website. Just click on the links to check them out. They should give you a flavour as to what the book will be like. Hope you enjoy the treat... There will also be more news about my 3rd novel and I will be publishing little tasters on this website soon.
Feb 09 - Things are going well at the moment. I have been shuffling things around so that I can squeeze in some time to work on my 3rd novel in-between sweating it out at the coal face with my other pursuits. The words, sadist and energiser bunny spring to mind. The 3rd book is Brit-Asian and promises to be as gripping and racy as the popular Masala Wedding, with feisty characters that you will connect with. So far so good and I will keep you up to speed with progress. Until then stay safe...
Mar 09 - Another month, another dollar. Just when I thought there was a thaw in my writing I found my spirit lifitng like a mist from the pond, leaping up from the cobbled gloom of the street - the result...several more deviously engaging chapters of my next novel scrawled down in all their grisly glory. The 3rd book is shaping up well and I am sure you will not be disappointed. Well, as the mesmerising sky hangs above my head I bid you a fond farewell until next time...ciao!
Apr 09 - What does Masala Books stand for? It is a fusion of thrills, laughs, romance, heroes and villains, with a smattering of dushum dushum thrown in to the cauldron for good measure, just like any good old fashioned Bollywood movie. I am just applying the final touches to my third novel – Rags to Bollywood, and I strongly feel that it has the minerals to topple the hugely successful ‘Masala Wedding’ from its revered position at the top of the pile.
The synopsis - Orphaned, beaten and abused from an early age, young trainee actor Sam finally gets his break to star in Bollywood, the place where dreams are made and souls crushed. However, in life things are not easy as he battles his way through a minefield of jealous rivals, corruption, brutal thugs, drugs, and treachery. Danger and extinction of life pervades his every move as the snarling wolves stalk with malevolence. This edge of the seat East meets West thriller will rip your heart out and spit out the pieces. Will Sam’s destiny see him fulfil his dreams and make it back home alive?
Rags to Bollywood, is being released in June 2009 and I am sure you will love it…
All the best – peace!
May 09 - Only one month to go before Rags To Bollywood is released. I have posted some excerpts on the RTB page on this website to whet your appetite in the meantime.
I was recently asked to name the rudimentary elements of what my vision was for Masala Books. It was a good one and I said;
Firstly, my hope and passion is to provide the reader with something different, with spice, thrills, spills, and non conventional stories that make the books genuinely hard to put down. It is all about trying to provide books that are ballsy, absorbing and cutting edge.
I hope my books are known for guaranteed edge of the seat drama, my signature killer twists, the unbelievable endings and the witty writing style that will keep you enthralled throughout. The books are for everyone, no matter who you are, anyone can pick one up and immediately connect and relate to what is going on, giving the reader a gritty, down to earth and real feel to each and every book. Well that is the dream.
All the very best and look out for Rags To Bollywood next month...
Jun 09 - The long awaited Rags To Bollywood will be released week commencing 22nd June 2009. If ever a book had the credentials and minerals to usurp the global popularity and success of Slumdog Millionaire then the messiah has arrived in the mouth watering thriller that is ‘Rags To Bollywood,’ the 3rd novel in the Masala Books range. It is a complete Bollywood film in a book with more pizzazz and excitement than you can shake a stick at. Rags to Bollywood fuses East and West in dramatic style incorporating a first person perspective for the reader to immerse themselves in. It has the thrills, romance, good guys, bad guys, action, drama and with added dushum dushum thrown in to make this the quintessential Bollywood film in a book. See the You Tube trailer for the book...
See you next month! All the best...
July 09 - Rags To Bollywood has now been released and the response has been fantastic, thank you so much, really I mean it - the feedback has been terrific and has got me misty eyed. In my marketing schedule I managed to sneak on to Midlands Masala radio station a few days ago and spoke about my novels with the lovely Satnam Rana and Arshia Riaz. It was good fun and if you want to hear it then I think it is lurking with intent on BBC iplayer. Well wish me luck with Rags To Bollywood, and if you haven't yet got a copy, please surf this website and check out some of the excerpts for yourself, it really is a good thrilling and very funny read, or so I have been told. Best as always and check in with me in a few weeks, ciao...
